“Faith is essential in your success. Faith is needed in almost every area of our lives: work, projects,  and small business endeavors,” – Alex Cook

Many times in the Bible, the Lord reminds His children never to fear. A classic example is through the prophet Isaiah, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10). Paul says the same thing to the Philippians but adds that they pray when they feel anxious, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV).

But what happens when fear or worry overtakes your heart? What happens when these negative emotions adversely affect your work, your family and your life?

Here are some tips and pointers to overcome your fear and make it through your daily grind, especially when you have to deal with money, with wealth and your treasures.

Believe that God is in control.

Know and acknowledge that the Lord is sovereign and in control of all circumstances. No matter what you are going through, no matter what financial worries that you are faced with each day, know and believe that the Lord is working all things for your good. Romans 8:28 (NIV) says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Focus on Jesus Christ.

This is a lesson that Peter learned firsthand when he had an opportunity to find out what it means to focus on Jesus Christ when the Lord called him to get out of the boat and walk on water during a storm (Matthew 14:22-33). When he saw the winds and the waves around him, Peter began to feel afraid and started to sink. Here you get a real depiction of the Christian life—that amidst the tribulations and the trials, especially with money, you need to focus your eyes on Jesus Christ. Hebrews 12:2 (NIV) says, “Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Pray.

Jesus Christ says in Matthew 6:33 (NIV), “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” So before worry, anxiety or fear overtake your heart, always get down on your knees and seek God and His Righteousness first in your life. Make a conscious effort never to let such negative emotions envelope you but instead allow His Spirit to embrace and engulf your heart.

Choose to Love.

When money is involved, oftentimes there are arguments, squabbles and conflict. Before such bickering happen, keep in mind that your purpose is to love just like Jesus Christ loves which will eventually drive out the fear in your spirit. “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18, NIV)
