How A Kingdom Entrepreneur Should Start Their Day
In 2014, McDonalds wanted to promote their breakfast menu in the Philippines, the country that ranks 5th in the world for the worst traffic and the worst morning commute. Their advertising agency, Leo Burnett Manila, had to come up with a unique and creative promotion on starting the day with the most important meal. Their selling point? Being grateful for the “the gift of today.”
Most people start their day in military fashion, waking up to an alarm clock, taking a quick shower, cramming breakfast, and running off to face the hustle and bustle of rush hour traffic.
We are thrown into our day before we can get a chance to ponder what lies ahead. But how can we, especially at the very start of our day, glorify God?
The key is gratitude: start your day grateful. When we (entrepreneur) remember to thank God for His faithfulness and His new mercies, we put ourselves in a place where we can see the blessings poured and the opportunities offered.
Start the day the same way whether it’s a Monday or a Sunday. There should be no distinctions between your business-self and your worshipping-self. God should permeate all areas of your life. We must be excellent bosses as we are excellent workers, respectful and kind to our equals as we are with our subordinates and honest and responsible with our clients as we are with our family.
Entrepreneurs may have a lot on their mind all at once when they wake up in the morning. They think about sales, numbers, people, and many more, but a kingdom-entrepreneur thinks about all of these things and considers where God is in the picture.
Start the day looking for the “glory-angle.” Ask God, “How can I glorify you today?” or “How can you use me today?” God is the designer and creator of the entire universe and we worship Him even as we design and create for our business. When we pursue excellence in our work, we glorify the Lord. The Bible says, “so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).
A kingdom entrepreneur starts the day consulting God. A kingdom-entrepreneur hungers for God’s word more than bacon and eggs, and longs for His wisdom more than coffee. We must be sensitive to what God is saying so we can align our days, weeks, months, years and whole lives to His good, perfect and pleasing will.
A kingdom entrepreneur is one who “seeks first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33). He starts his day with God, ends his day with God, and seeks Him in between. If we start the day with thoughts of God, thanking Him, worshipping Him, inquiring of Him, then we can look to the rest of our days as adventures rather than boxes in a calendar.
Start the day right with God.
