Gospel at Work at Work

In the book of Mark, Jesus said to His disciples, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

What is the Gospel? It is the message of salvation and redemption through the life, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The greatest gift that one can ever receive is the gift of salvation, this is the Gospel, knowing and having Jesus Christ in one’s life. Having a relationship with our Lord and Savior is the only thing that can satisfy and bring true joy in our hearts.

If we have this gift and the fullness of joy that it brings, do we keep it to ourselves or do we delight in sharing it to our family, our friends, our colleagues and to the people around us?

Every single hour, thousands of people die without having the chance to hear the Gospel and know Jesus Christ. This is heartbreaking.

Everyday, we come across people from different walks of life who are seemingly doing well in life but in reality are in need of something greater and more important than anything else the world can offer—a relationship with Jesus Christ. Do we actually care about the people we encounter and deal with everyday or are we simply apathetic about where they will spend their eternity?  In our workplaces, there are people who seem well outside but whose hearts are troubled and bothered, do we intentionally build relationships with them and share the hope that we profess with them?

He has brought us exactly where we are for a reason. We are in our workplace for a greater purpose. More than just earning a living, He has appointed us to be a channel of His blessings.  God has blessed us so we can be a blessing, and this is not just about physical or material things, God has called us to share the light and the joy that we have to the lost people around us.

Sometimes, we don’t even have to speak. The way we lead our lives and our work ethics serve as a testimony to the truth of Christ. When our colleagues witness our integrity at work, and when they see that we can be trusted even with the small things, this can be an open door for the seed of the gospel to be planted in their hearts. Doing things at work diligently and excellently, as if doing it for the Lord,  will give us an opportunity to be God’s hands and feet in our workplace.

Sharing the Gospel and the truth of Christ is not just the responsibility of ordained ministers, pastors and missionaries. It is the role of everyone who has received the Holy Spirit. It is the privilege given to every person whom God calls His son and daughter.

Most of the time, the opportunity to share the gospel goes beyond words. It’s a lifestyle. When we are excellent in the things we do, that we have integrity when it comes to time and finances, when we have genuine concern for others, when we love, these are open doors for the Gospel to be shared to our colleagues.

Receiving Christ is not a ticket to heaven. It entails being a light to the dark places just as Jesus did when He was on earth. It is about being His mouthpiece, His hands and feet to the broken and dying world. It is becoming like Him in words, in action, in character. This is the gospel at work at work.
